China's rare earth exports increase sharply from January to February 2021
Mar 9,2021.

Analysis of customs statistics shows that China's rare earth exports from January to February 2021 were 7068 tons, an increase of 28.8% year-on-year; the export value was US$78.9 million, a year-on-year increase of 85.5%.

The export situation is obviously different from previous years. From January to February 2021, the export volume increased sharply, and the export value increased sharply. The root cause is as follows:

(1) Affected by the new crown epidemic in 2020, the export volume will drop by 17.3% for the first time (substantially); one low and one high reflects the significant increase in export volume in 2021;

(2) Since 2020, the price of rare earth materials has risen almost across the board, and the prices of most products have skyrocketed; coupled with the large increase in quantity, this is reflected in a surge in export value.

In recent years, the application of rare earth permanent magnets has continued to grow. The outbreak of the domestic epidemic in the Spring Festival in 2020 and the continuation of the epidemic in Europe and the United States have led to a decline in the demand for various industrial products and materials. As the epidemic gradually weakened from June to July 2020, the global economy began to gradually recover, and the demand for industrial products also began to increase. In particular, rare earth permanent magnet materials have always been a barometer of economic prosperity from March to June. With the change in the balance of supply and demand, price leverage is naturally needed to adjust, so the market will see an increase in the price of praseodymium and neodymium oxide and alloys after October 2020, and the subsequent short-term increase has led to difficulties in downstream applications and reduced demand. Which directly affects the steady decline of the price of Pr and Nd.

Review: China's rare earth export volume and prices fell in the first February of 2020, and the export volume decreased for the second consecutive year

The analysis of customs statistics shows that China exported 5,489 tons of rare earths from January to February 2020, a year-on-year decrease of 17.3%; the average export price dropped by 30% year-on-year.
